I love going barefoot, but here in big-city concrete-land it’s not really practical … except for around the house (floorboards don’t really cut it though).

I find walking barefoot on the ground – i.e. grass and earth – incredibly grounding.

It calms me down.

Particularly when I get stressed, anxious and lost in my head.

This happens when I’m busy and trying to juggle a number of projects at once – a regular occurrence with our recent move and me saying ‘yes’ to many new opportunities. To counteract the frazzle, I try to get a hit of fresh air and nature as often as I can.

The past weekend  was one of these lucky times. Jon and I were back in Queensland, on Stradbroke Island, for our friends’ wedding.

It was so beautiful.

The wedding itself was a total blast – full of love, fun people, great food, nice drinks, heart-swelling speeches and bad dancing. Congratulations Lucy and Chris!

What was really good for my soul however was simply being at Straddie – a dorky  and gorgeous island. We were surrounded by bush and sky and ocean; big clouds, lashing rain and the occasional promising ray of sunshine.

It was a healing balm.

On Sunday we woke to a grey and overcast morning which squashed our plans for swimming in the sunshine. However, it was the best *the best* for walking barefoot on the sand, daydreaming and breathing.

I felt like the world had given me a big squishy grandmother-love bear hug.

Sand underfoot. Waves at his ankles. Bliss.
