Hey you little chocaholics, when I say “no egg for you!” I’m not talking about Easter eggs, ok? I’m talking about hen eggs. Some people just can’t eat them – get sick when they do and avoid as a result.
When baking or adapting recipes that require eggs, I’ve been familiar with people using substitute products such as No Egg – which is fine. However, recently leafing through one of my current favourite cookbooks, I found a list of other pantry items that can do the trick! I just had to share.
To replace one egg, you can use one of the following:
1 tablespoon chia seeds with 3 tablespoons water (let sit for 15 mins)
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed with 3 tablespoons warm water
1/4 cup cooked pumpkin
1/4 cup puréed prunes
2 tablespoons arrowroot flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 ripe banana
1/4 applesauce
Hey now, this is great advice! (courtesy of Tania Hubbard’s Gluten Free Grain Free)
At this time of year, I can’t part without wishing everyone a lovely Easter break – enjoy some time off, no doubt some chocolate and hopefully time spent with loved ones.
